Where Darkness Meets Light is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children, adolescents, and families through trauma-informed care, emotional wellness programs, mentorship, counseling resources, and compassionate community support.
We believe no child or teen should have to navigate pain, trauma, emotional struggles, or identity challenges alone, especially during the most formative years of life. Our mission is to create safe, nurturing environments where youth feel seen, heard, valued, and empowered to heal, grow, and move forward with hope and confidence.
Inspired by Matthew 25:35–36, the mission of Where Darkness Meets Light is to be a source of hope, healing, and light within the community.
Our mission is to provide faith-centered, trauma-informed support services that promote emotional wellness, resilience, personal growth, and healthy identity development for children and adolescents ages 6–18.
Through mentorship, counseling support, emotional wellness programs, and community care, we strive to help youth and families experience healing, connection, encouragement, and hope. At the heart of our work is the belief that even in darkness, light remains.
Our vision is to cultivate a generation of emotionally healthy, resilient, and purpose-driven youth who are equipped to overcome adversity, build meaningful relationships, and walk confidently in faith, healing, and hope.

Luciana Heard founded Where Darkness Meets Light with a passion for helping children and adolescents feel supported, encouraged, and empowered during critical stages of emotional and personal development. Through faith-based, trauma-informed support, her mission is to create safe spaces where youth can build confidence, resilience, emotional wellness, and a healthy sense of identity rooted in truth and purpose.
Her passion for this work is deeply personal. During her middle and high school years, Luciana experienced isolation, low self-esteem, and a lack of emotional support and guidance. Without healthy support systems or positive mentorship, those struggles impacted her confidence, relationships, emotional well-being, and decision-making into adulthood. Those experiences later became the foundation for her commitment to helping young people feel valued, supported, and equipped to make healthy life decisions as they grow and develop.
In her mid-20s, Luciana met a woman at her church named Sheila Canada, who invited her to visit each month. During their conversations, Sheila would ask one simple yet life-changing question:
“What’s on your mind today?”
For the first time, Luciana felt truly heard. As she shared painful experiences and emotional burdens she had carried for years, Sheila responded with compassion, wisdom, encouragement, and care. During one of the darkest seasons of her life, Sheila became a light for her.
That experience planted a desire in Luciana’s heart to become a light for others in the same way. Years later, she learned that her name, Luciana, means “Light,” which further affirmed her sense of purpose and calling. Through faith, healing, and personal growth, she came to believe that God was calling her to encourage, uplift, and walk alongside others through difficult seasons of life.
Luciana’s heart for service was also shaped by her upbringing. Although her family experienced significant financial hardship, she watched her mother continually give to others with generosity, compassion, and faith. Those experiences strengthened her commitment to supporting children, adolescents, and families facing emotional and financial challenges.
Luciana also recognizes the barriers many underserved and low socioeconomic communities face in accessing emotional wellness support, mentorship, and safe spaces for youth development. Where Darkness Meets Light was created to help bridge this gap by providing free, accessible, and community-centered support services for children, adolescents, and families in need.
Luciana holds a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and is a Certified Mental Health Life Coach. She also holds a Master Diploma in Crisis Response, Trauma Care, and Suicide Prevention and has training in crisis intervention and Psychological First Aid. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Community Care and Counseling with a specialization in Traumatology, including international study experience in Greece.
Her work focuses on youth emotional wellness, resilience, identity development, and faith-centered support across diverse cultural backgrounds. The organization also incorporates creative approaches such as art, music, culinary expression, and experiential activities to encourage emotional expression, connection, confidence, and personal growth.
